Two weeks before Night of Champions, the 1006th edition of WWE Monday Night RAW came to you, live, from the Allstate Arena in CM Punk’s hometown of Chicago, IL. With a title defense against John Cena looming at Night of Champions and one week after the uncomfortable brutalizing of Jerry “The King” Lawler inside the steel cage, WWE Champion CM Punk would go one-on-one with World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus in a non-title Champion vs. Champion match. Also, the respective #1 Contenders for the WWE and World Heavyweight Titles would square off on RAW as the #1 Contender for the WWE Title, John Cena, faces the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Title, Alberto Del Rio.

Detailed Results
RAW would kick off with Michael Cole explaining that Jerry “The King” Lawler was not out there with him due to a backstage brawl that took place moments before RAW went on the air. During the brawl, the Hall of Famer would hold his own against WWE Champion CM Punk, but a boot to the face of “The King” would knock Lawler down before referees were finally able to restrain the WWE Champion.

The show would then officially get underway with World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus, who says that the “party will end” for Alberto Del Rio at Night of Champions. However, the World Heavyweight Champion would barely get the words out of his mouth before Chicago’s own WWE Champion, CM Punk, interrupts, soaking in the ovation from the hometown crowd. Punk tells Sheamus that Chicago cannot relate to a guy like Sheamus, but they can relate to a guy like him. The WWE Champion claims that Jerry Lawler attacked him from behind backstage, saying that he beat up the Hall of Famer “Chicago style” and, last week, he gave Lawler a lesson in “respect”. Punk continues that John Cena got involved in his business last week, saying that Lawler said several weeks ago that Punk turned his back on the fans. Punk then says that Cena is agreeing with Jerry Lawler and, if that is the case, then Cena is “disrespecting” Punk, saying that Cena has turned his back on the fans. Sheamus then interrupts Punk’s rant, saying that at least The Rock had the guts to confront Punk in the ring on the 1,000th episode of RAW before the World Heavyweight Champion dares the WWE Champion to come into the ring. Punk says that he already beat up one “goon” and, in the pecking order of the WWE, Sheamus is second best, telling Sheamus to shut his mouth! Sheamus tells Punk that Punk is talking out of his “arse”. Punk begins to respond before he is interrupted by RAW General Manager AJ Lee, who says that she means no disrespect, but she has an announcement to make. The GM then announces that John Cena will face Alberto Del Rio and, in a Champion vs. Champion match, WWE Champion CM Punk will face World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus.

The opening match of the night was a rematch from SmackDown as “The Viper” Randy Orton went one-on-one with “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” Dolph Ziggler, with Vickie Guerrero in his corner. In the end, it was Dolph Ziggler going counter-for-counter with Randy Orton, finally getting a roll-up on “The Viper”, hooking Orton’s tights for added leverage to pick up the win.

RAW also featured footage of week two of the anger management classes for Daniel Bryan and Kane as the doctor asks Daniel Bryan to present his anger collage. Bryan shows a piece of paper with “yes” and “no” written all over it, explaining that when he screams “yes”, the fans chant “yes” and when he chants “no”, they still chant “yes”. Dr. Shelby then asks Kane to show his anger collage and “The Big Red Monster” shows a blank piece of paper before saying that he will show the doctor how he feels inside, tossing the paper in a trashcan and lighting it on fire! Bryan responds by calling Kane a “teacher’s pet”.

With Intercontinental Champion The Miz joining Michael Cole on commentary, “The Master of the 619” Rey Mysterio would team with “The International Sensation” Sin Cara as the masked duo would face the team of Cody Rhodes and the destructive Tensai, with Sakamoto in their corner. In the end, it was Rey Mysterio hitting the 619 on Cody Rhodes, setting Rhodes up for a Swanton Bomb by Sin Cara, who pins Rhodes to pick up the win for the masked team.

Back at anger management, Dr. Shelby asks the participants to move their chairs back for a trust exercise, asking Kane and Daniel Bryan to do a trust fall with Daniel Bryan falling backwards and Kane actually catching him! The doctor then asks anger management participant Harold to have both Kane and Daniel Bryan catch him, but the trust fall falls short as Kane and Bryan intentionally let Harold hit the floor! Bryan then says that he thinks that he finally “understands” Kane.

It was then scheduled to be a Champion vs. Champion match between WWE Champion CM Punk and World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus, but after Sheamus comes out, ready to compete, Punk comes out still in his street clothes. The WWE Champion explains that Chicago understands that Punk is “nothing less” than a main event wrestler and they all “respect” his decisions. Punk then says that a lot of the Chicago fans have taken the day for Labor Day and that is exactly what he is doing before the WWE Champion exits the ring, walking to the back! Sheamus then says that Punk is disrespecting the fans by refusing to compete. Backstage, AJ Lee tries to stop CM Punk from leaving the arena, but the WWE Champion tells the GM to check his contract, saying that he is taking a “personal day” before Punk gets in a car and leaves the arena! A stressed out AJ Lee then tells Matt Striker that she will find an opponent for Sheamus.

With CM Punk walking out on the scheduled Champion vs. Champion match against World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus, RAW General Manager AJ Lee would have to find a last minute opponent for Sheamus and, with the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Title, Alberto Del Rio, a guest on commentary, World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus would go one-on-one with Jack Swagger in a non-title match. In the end, it was Sheamus pulling a new move out of his arsenal, locking in the Texas Cloverleaf on Jack Swagger, making Swagger tap out to pick up the win. After the match, Alberto Del Rio would use a distraction by Ricardo Rodriguez to try and attack Sheamus, but the World Heavyweight Champion would fight back, knocking Rodriguez out of the way before hitting White Noise on the #1 Contender. However, when Sheamus goes for the Brogue Kick, Rodriguez shoves Del Rio out of the way, taking the Brogue Kick for his employer!

Two weeks before she challenges Layla for the Divas Title, Kaitlyn would go one-on-one with the Assistant to the SmackDown General Manager, Eve, with Divas Champion Layla a guest on commentary. In the end, it was Eve hitting a swinging neckbreaker on Kaitlyn en route to picking up the win. After the match, Eve exits the ring to shake the hand of a reluctant Layla.

Backstage, RAW General Manager AJ Lee catches up with Jack Swagger, who informs the GM that he is taking some “extended” time off. AJ begs Swagger to stay, saying that Brock Lesnar, Chris Jericho, and CM Punk have already “left” her, but Swagger says “sorry” before exiting the arena.

Back at anger management, Dr. Shelby congratulates his students on completing anger management, saying that he is especially proud of Daniel Bryan and Kane. Bryan then addresses the class, saying that he now realizes that he did have an anger issue, but now he is over it and would be glad to face Kane in a SummerSlam rematch any time Kane wants it. Kane says that, someday, he will gladly accept the challenge and he will try his best to not “eviscerate” him, but Bryan says that it will be tough for Kane to eviscerate him if Kane is tapping out. Kane says that it will be tough for Bryan to make him tap out if he makes it so Bryan cannot even leave the room. The confrontation between the two causes Dr. Shelby to lose his cool as the doctor screams at both men that they have learned “nothing” before Dr. Shelby storms out of the room!

Backstage, Matt Striker is trying to get an update from Alberto Del Rio about the condition of Ricardo Rodriguez, but David Otunga comes out of the trainer’s room, saying that his “client” will not be speaking at this time. Has David Otunga found himself a new client? Will Del Rio or Rodriguez sue Sheamus or the WWE?

“The Sin City Cyborg” was in action on RAW as the undefeated Ryback went one-on-one with Jinder Mahal. In the end, it was another dominant victory for “The Sin City Cyborg” as Ryback hits Shell Shocked on Jinder Mahal en route to picking up the win.

Backstage, a stressed AJ Lee tells Matt Striker to inform John Cena and Alberto Del Rio that their main event match will now be a Falls Count Anywhere Match!

The WWE fans would decide the next step for Daniel Bryan and Kane via #RAWactive as the fans would vote for the two rivals to either face each other in a match, team with each other in a match, or “hug it out”. With 55% of the vote, Kane and Daniel Bryan would have to settle their issues with a hug in the middle of the ring! The two Superstars would be extremely reluctant to even make friendly contact, but after a couple of chest bumps, Bryan would manage to hug Kane. Then it was Kane’s turn to hug Daniel Bryan back with “The Big Red Monster” awkwardly hugging Daniel Bryan. With a referee officiating the bizarre moment between the two, Kane and Daniel Bryan would finally and truly “hug it out” before shaking hands. The two would then exchange friendly slaps on the shoulder, but the slaps would get more and more aggressive, leading to Daniel Bryan shoving Kane and Kane shoving back. The shoving match continues before all the anger management classes go out the window as Daniel Bryan delivers kicks to Kane, sending Kane to the outside. However, Kane would gain the advantage, hurling Bryan into the ringside barricade. Kane then grabs a steel chair, ramming it into the mid-section of Bryan before chokeslamming Bryan in the center of the ring. Kane then places the chair around the neck of Bryan, but referees prevent Kane from compacting Bryan’s skull. Bryan then gets a hold of the chair, driving it into the shoulder of “The Big Red Monster” before making a quick escape from the ring.

After losing the United States Title on the SummerSlam Pre-Show, Santino Marella would get his rematch as Santino would challenge Antonio Cesaro, with Aksana in his corner, for the United States Title. In the end, it was Antonio Cesaro hitting the Neutralizer on Santino Marella en route to picking up the win and successfully retaining the United States Title.

“The Long Island Iced Z” was in action on RAW as Zack Ryder went one-on-one with Heath Slater. In the end, it was Zack Ryder hitting the Rough Ryder Leg Lariat on Heath Slater en route to picking up the win. Ryder would get no time to celebrate, however, as Vickie Guerrero comes out, saying that she is not going to leave the ring until AJ Lee comes out there. Vickie then demands that she gets a chair to sit in, which she receives as Vickie awaits the arrival of the RAW General Manager. As Vickie awaits the arrival of AJ Lee, Vickie pulls a Clint Eastwood by talking to an empty chair. The stressed AJ Lee finally makes her way to the ring as the GM reveals the WWE Board of Directors has reprimanded her for her recent actions and have warned her to never put her hands on anyone ever again. AJ says that the Board of Directors also want her to apologize as the GM apologizes to everyone. Vickie then demands that AJ apologize to her right now. The GM swallows her pride and manages to say that she’s sorry, but Vickie says that it is not good enough, telling AJ to apologize again, but this time, mean it. AJ then gives it another try, but Vickie responds with a slap to the GM’s face and AJ just narrowly avoids losing it. Vickie then taunts the GM before slapping her a second time! Vickie then leaves the ring, laughing at AJ and skipping up the ramp, causing the GM to toss the microphone down. The enraged GM then takes her aggression out on the steel chair in the ring, using the chair to pound the mat before tossing the chair out of the ring before AJ breaks down in the center of the ring.

Then it was time for the main event as #1 Contenders would face off as the #1 Contender for the WWE Title, John Cena, would go one-on-one with the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Title, Alberto Del Rio, in a Falls Count Anywhere Match. During the match, John Cena would go for the Attitude Adjustment on Alberto Del Rio, with the intent of driving Del Rio through the announce table, but Del Rio would counter, delivering a back suplex to Cena through the table! The fight would then make its way to the backstage area as Cena and Del Rio destroy the backstage area before Cena hits the Attitude Adjustment on Del Rio on an anvil case, but before Cena can take advantage, CM Punk appears out of nowhere, delivering a kick to Cena’s skull! Punk then pulls Del Rio over to cover Cena as Del Rio gets the victory! CM Punk then finishes the job as he delivers a modified GTS on the hood of a car! As Cena is laid out on the concrete, Punk utters the word “respect” to Cena before Punk gets in the car. The car then slowly drives by the downed Cena, revealing that Punk’s chauffeur is none other than Paul Heyman!
